Raiffeisen Feed Plant Employs Cutting-Edge Level Detection to Prevent Overfilling

Avoiding container overfill was a critical concern for German farm supplier Raiffeisen Kraftfuttermittelwerk Dörpen, who were also keen to optimise the mixing process of animal feed for better operational efficiency. By installing the ProGap 2.0-BS, they are now able to detect whether containers are at risk of exceeding their limit and stop the flow of feed to prevent overfill, reducing waste and eliminating downtime.

Challenge

The team at Raiffeisen’s animal feed plant were experiencing disruptions in their operations due to containers repeatedly being overfilled. At the plant, four scales filled containers with different types of feed via screw conveyors.

 

Since the types of feed varied, this created varying bulk heights in each container, making it difficult to monitor whether too much feed was being added––before it was too late. Every time the containers started to exceed their feed limit, the central mechanical slider, which moves materials to downstream process lines, became obstructed, disrupting the production flow and requiring costly downtime.

Solution

Our solution was to install the ProGap 2.0-BS–a contactless sensor featuring a transmitter and receiver that leverages advanced microwave technology for accurate detection of bulk material limit levels. It was set up behind the scales to prevent container overfilling by identifying limit levels during the filling process, even when flow paths are interrupted.
